To My Mother
You too, my mother, read my rhymes
For love of unforgotten times,
And you may chance to hear once more
The little feet along the floor.
-Robert Louis Stevenson
I LOVE the poetry of Robert Louis Stevenson. They touch this mother deeply. Sadly poetry, something even the manliest of men would quote and pen is being lost to many of the the younger generation. My own included.
Oh to go back in time, just an hour or so for each year of my children's lives! How quickly the time goes! My youngest now seven, my middle almost driving, my oldest not quite 19, and a father himself. Do you ever long for a few more moments in the rocking chair singing lullabies, or laughing at your little one's joy in the simplest of things? Sometimes my heart aches for it.
So a prayer from me for your children and mine.............
i know what you mean, indeed they grow up so quickly!
ReplyDeleteI feel exactly the same thing, nostalgia to older times, when they where still completely yours...and you could protect them against danger...
ReplyDeletea beautiful post. i share your sentiments!
ReplyDeleteso beautiful, the poetry and sentiments. But now mine are getting married and having babies, and being a grandma (even a long distance one) is divine!
ReplyDeleteI love that poem. While I didn't get lucky enough to have children, I will say that the students I have had from a young age to high school graduation have definitely grown super fast. It is rather unfair if you ask me! Some of them are even mothers themselves now! Wow, has time gone fast.
ReplyDeleteBeatutiful poem and very sweet picture.
ReplyDeleteHi Jody, I know what you mean, time just goes by so quickly. My favorite times with my babies were rocking them nestled next to my neck. Oh I wish I could do that again. Hopefully I will be able some day to do that with grandchildren. Thank you for a beautiful post. Have a wonderful week and Happy Easter to you and your family, my friend. Hugs, Terri
